20 Google home mini commands that actually work in INDIA

Let's face it,Right now Google does not really do all that much as compared to it's US counterpart.

But it can do a few things all right,

Also if you consider buying it from FLIPKART,remember that the subscription services have an expiry date,Still incase you want to buy the Home mini despite it's current state.

This video might be worth checking out for you if you are considering a google home mini.

I don't regret buying anything that relies on updates  as
long as the developers are going to improve their app/service and not sell you abandon-ware.

With the google home mini,I am confident of the future updates rolling out eventually.

I just hope it happens in 2018 itself.

ALL NEW KINDLE 2016 (BASIC) REVIEW

This Kindle is perfect for newbies to the e ink screen world. Here is my honest opinion and a few things I have learned.

DESCRIPTION:

Okay, so the Kindle you will get in the box is handy-small enough to carry anywhere without much trouble. You can read it while travelling by bus or when you just have nothing else to do(eg.waiting for the frigging bus to pick me up)

It has no backlight and that can be a plus or a minus, ..I find it is okay even without a backlight as I just sit under a lamp and read. Not really too big .It is a great nifty gadget.

I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME THIS BEFORE I STARTED USING MY KINDLE BUT-

-Please install the software called CALIBRE developed by an Indian man called Kovid Goyal, it is a fantastic application, use it from the START before loading any books onto your Kindle.

IT IS FREE.

Just download the calibre application to your laptop and add books to its library(stored on your laptop) it will optimise the books for your kindle-especially if you usually download free e-books like me,It also finds cover pages for books and fills in meta data(this is extremely useful) and helps keep track of your books on the Kindle device.

-KEEP your Kindle on aeroplane mode most of the time to save battery :D
-If you have Bluetooth speakers, use it to activate VOICE READING mode, I love this feature in the kindle,The voice is female and sounds good,a lil annoying sometimes but worth it once she gets to the main content. .(I have a SOUNDPOT BY PORTRONICS which works well,However ,the kindle 2016 didn't detect my Bluetooth soundpeats Q7 earphones.sigh.

Please buy it a cover, I got mine in white and it is more obvious how delicate this device is..so I got a black cover for 250 bucks on amazon.

Note: The device is manufactured abroad but "assemble in China" ;p if you know what I mean.

Overall it is a great device, I hope it lasts at least 5 years.

BOAT STONE 360 REVIEW+ UNBOXING

Hey there!
I'm Yuan :)

I recently bought this Bluetooth speaker on Amazon.in. and I thought it's best to unbox it so you can see for yourself what you get.
And don't worry it includes a sound test too.

BOAT STONE 360

Pros:

Good sound.
Good bass.
Good connectivity.
Looks good.
Rubber finish is good.
Water proof!
Bottle cap design.
Battery life is good(8 hours)
You get used to the sound.

Cons.
The design could be smaller.
I don't like that it doesn't connect to two devices simultaneously.
Wish it were louder for the size.
Low volume isn't even like, you can't hear it xD

NOTE: CHECK THE COMMENT SECTION FOR MY FINAL VERDICT!

HUION K46 REVIEW + VIDEO WALKTHROUGH

Okay so that was basically it :) Look closely at my shitty drawings you might have missed something ;D
There isn't really much to say, It gets the job done.I am more than happy to have bought this. The Wacom one is kinda overrated in my opinion.
The thing is Wacom concentrates on its higher end models more and Huion is relative cheaper even at with its higher end variants,so for a person on a super skimpy budget like me taking the Huion made more sense. This is a beginners tablet-I want it to last 5 years and not stress out if it breaks. The Wacom one has a smaller working space and that was unacceptable to me.
So see what you like, If you are just trying out drawing like me, then the Huion is perfect because it's so light on your budget.

Here is where I got mine:

The Liberal Arts Minimalist! Why It May Be The Best Thing In Your College.

An Indian Minimalist In College!

Being a minimalist simply means discarding whatever is not required by you, It is a lifestyle which ultimately reduced stress, At least that is why I adopted it.
There is an underlying philosophy to which it makes sense.
Perfect sense, because if you keep less materialistic stuff around you, you reduced your attachment to that stuff.
This doesn't mean you should live in a cave with no utensils to cook your meals, or not need technology at all.
It just means that you cull out the unnecessary bits that take money, space and effort to conserve.
The best part is it is easier to do so now thanks to tech!

Printed Books and the other Printouts.

During the semester, I usually end up taking about a foot high of printed notes and exercise books because the originals are too expensive.
At the end of the semester I used to store these books at the bottom of my cupboard and they just took up a lot of space, Used notebooks too! and all those little bits of papers, magazine cuttings, research articles printed out and even someone's notes xeroxed!
Now, I decided to CULL my use of paper, It took some time getting used to but it helped clear the clutter from my desk immensely.

Ways I minimised my paper clutter:

College notes and textbooks I passed on to the juniors for free, after all, IT would be rotting in my room and occupying space anyway.

For textbooks, I decided to use the online PDF after identifying the books in our syllabus.
It was mostly free, I converted these and had them sent to my Kindle (The 5-6K one on Amazon)-After I used a desktop App called "Calibre" my use of the kindle for reading was improved and now I keep most of my textbooks el Cetera here.

If I have the soft copy of any book, I get rid of its hardcopy on my shelf-THIS APPLIES ONLY TO BOOKS YOU RARELY READ-I would never donate any of my favourite hard copies of books because of the feel and look are really great.

I also used apps like speech to text to take notes online and type out my notes, Then I would email them to myself in a systematic manner.

I still use a physical notebook as of now to take notes, But I think I have reduced my paper usage by 60% (at least) just by actively trying to keep more softcopies of study material.

Another thing I do to reduce paper is submitting  my assignments online instead of a hard copy(My professor encouraged this- ask yours if you can too!)

I like that I don't have a tonne of books in my bag when I go to college, I used to use the mobile-The problem I had with the mobile is I got distracted by texts, emails and often didn't treat it like an educational device XD , but now use the kindle to read the textbook while I write down my notes during the lecture in a notebook.
Also, instead of printing out the Power Point presentation's given in class I just convert them into PDF's and view them on the kindle.

Clothes And Accessories

I used to have two cupboards full of clothes, It was too much and I wore only a few outfits on a daily basis.
So what I did is select a theme for my wardrobe,, I wanted to have more blues -SO a more a classic theme. Then I packed all the clothes didn't  that fit into my theme or I didn't really like and kept for the sake of it and 1)distributed it to people who would need/wear them. 2)Packed the ones I thought I might need but not exactly sure into plastic bags that I compressed and kept them in the storeroom.

I have just one rack and a suitcase and I live very comfortably out of that.
The plus is whenever I have a camp or need to travel I can make do with these few items because I have trained myself to need less.
It is perfectly okay to repeat your outfit every two weeks as long as you wash it.
I have kept aside 15 outfits all on a hanger and mostly with blue as the main colour of each outfit, I also have 5 workout clothes (just two track pants and 3 comfortable shirts )
I just use a pair of socks. That's it.I wash the pair while I take a shower and its dried by the next day.
For underwear and bra's I think it's best to use as less as possible but don't inconvenience yourself by skimping out too much.
It is okay to keep extra underclothes.

Bathroom

This was surprisingly easy. What I did was gather all the stuff I used (shampoos soap, conditioner facewash etc...) into a box and cleaned the entire place until it was good enough to eat in XD
Then I used the bathroom and only got out the things I needed to use from the box, So far I only went to the box for soap, a toothbrush, moisturiser and a facewash.
I realised that I only use a few things daily, The rest-Like floor wash and all those scrubs etc,i use them rarely..thus it made more sense to not keep them out in the open but in a box.
This reduced the clutter and dust buildup in my bathroom a lot.
Also, it is nice to see how less I can use and still be so healthy and have good skin.

Tip: A baby wipe on time, Saves your skin from grime.(I use a cheap fragrance-free one like "littles" got 240 wipes for 160 rs on an amazon discount offer)

Overall:

Try to be minimalistic, gooodI always think of how to better oneself and use less. This helps me invest in lesser things but spend more times looking into quality.I'd rather have one a good quality handbag than a dozen cheap and easy to ruin handbags.
Same with clothes.
Same with cosmetics.
Same with people.
Being a minimalist made me happier and focus on what matters the most.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Happy minimalism and have a stress free day :) Tell me in the comments what YOU do in your minimalist lifestyle,or why you read this post :P

ASUS E200HA- The Thrifty Art Student's Below 15 K Laptop!

The ASUS E200HA- Thrifty Art Students Under 15 K Essential Laptop.

Lets get right into it!

SO,15000 K was my budget.
But I didn't mind because I knew the introduction of touchscreen Laptops meant that the prices of normal ones go down, at least that is what I figured.

Also, I wanted a purely college oriented functional laptop, It had to have:
1)An efficient battery life.
2)Sturdy Keyboard.
3)Good Looks.
4)Additional Features- I will expand on this later in this article.
5)Weight-The ASUS weighs 0.980 kg-it feels really really light.

The thing is, I didn't need the laptop to have a lot of features or anything because the internet is so cheap now.
I got 28 Gb internet for the price of 2 Hyderabad biryanis, btw  HUGE SHOUTOUT TO JIO FOR MAKING IDEA SLASH THEIR INTERNET RATES!

FOR POWER HOGGERS OR THE 24 HOURS OF COLLEGE LIFE.
(AKA BATTERY LIFE)

I typically turn on this machine at 6 AM in the morning and it lasts me up to 9-10 PM at night with moderate usage.
I almost always keep the wifi feature on only turning it off to conserve battery if I come home late
It gives me about 14 HOURS of battery on a single charge which I think is amazing.
What do I do with it?
Well, called I watch or download youtube videos using an Application called YTD Downloader(available for free on a website called soft tonic )
I type up my assignments, browse the internet, check emails, even video chat with old friends-Though, to be honest, I never video chat in college SO not sure how much battery that would consume.I don't mind though, because it takes about 2 hours for a full charge while I use the device.
That seems reasonable.
I do type a lot though and this lasts me an entire day and a half sometimes.
Depends on how you use it I would say,  but the battery power of this machine is definitely above average.

THE DEMENTED LIBERAL ART STUDENTS KEYBOARD

I have written more than 14,000 words this semester using this laptop.
So far, No problems.I think the machine is best suited to individuals with medium/smaller leaner sized hands.
Simply because the device is small and compact, It isn't comfortable for larger hands and will be not a good investment for a writer with larger hands.
Keeping in mind this is for college students, I dare say that YOU DON'T NEED MS WORD! PLEASE give up this notion that MS word is the ultimate *eye roll* Okay, INTERNET IS CHEAP NOW, just use google documents you can convert files into pdf etc for free, Unlike some programs I know.
-While submitting my projects I have to convert them into the PDF format so I find this feature useful for writers.
Also, I don't have to worry about deleting my files as I type them either on GOOGLE DOCS or WPS office as they automatically save my work.
Screw MS word.Really.
Another thing I would like to add is I use google speech to text on GOOGLE DOCS.So if I feel like rambling I just let the laptop do all the typing.
WIN-WIN.

Note-Initially, when I used the laptop/netbook I had a problem with the caps lock key -the light by which you know when it is off/on, is the front and it is difficult/inconvenient to look down there while typing. However, I got used to that as I continued to type and now it doesn't bother me as much as I can tell without looking.

LOOKS

The laptop gets a 10/10 for looks, It looks really similar to the Mac Book...except for its kinda giveaway look of the keyboard, which isn't that bad actually.I got the golden one...it looks more silver /rose gold which is even more beautiful.I really love the look of this laptop. It looks sleek and compact and more expensive than it is.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONALITY AND SQUEEZING OUT THE LAST BUCK.

Well, The internal storage of this device is 32 Gb, additional mine is left untouched mostly...except for the windows updates additional themes and Icon packs I downloaded to personalised the laptop.
When I purchased this I paid about 14000 for the laptop and paired that with a mini mouse from logitech and a micro sd card for about 1000 rupees in total= 15 K ;)
Plus I save most of my work online or on the Micro SD Card :)
I have used software like Prezi, Google-based applications, WPS office, Cover-A Free software for reading comics and manga.
I sometimes try a wee bit of basic video editing with wondershare Filmora, but mostly I just stick to these basics to get the job done.

A  LIL BIT OF CORTANA IS ALL I NEED

While she is available on windows 10 and I did use her initially, be aware that when you first use your laptop, windows 10 automatically updates(BOUT 6 GB MAYBE?IDK FELT LIKE A ZILLION AND I COULD NOT PUT IT OFF UNTIL LATER) and after the language pack and everything works she will work properly.(I had some issues with her)
I don't like to use her though because of how invasive Microsoft can get -I don't like being used to collect data like that.
But it is great to use in case you don't mind all that jazz, she is a good assistant.
I just got creeped out by her eventually ;p

THE GLITCHY DAY

This happened only once but it is worth mentioning, on about a month after buying it a day came when I left it too long and it just went blank and the screen would not come on despite what I did-I did'nt carry the charger to college so I had to come home and fix it (The screen) I looked up the internet.
Solution: Press the power on button and  F8 key after a gap of one sec each... it reboots and its as good as new again!(nothing gets deleted dw)

WHERE DID I BUY IT FROM?

I got it from amazon in January 2017 from the seller "cloudtail", It was delivered in a day or two I think. And well packed.
I think you could get it cheaper now though.Hopefully.

VERDICT:

THRIFTY ARTS STUDENT APPROVED!

Thanks for reading!
I wonder if you noticed the song reference I made in the subheadings;p
DO let me know in the comments if you did!
Also ask me if you have any questions :)

-Please check out the links below,I purchased all these over the course of 6 months,JUST add the items to your wishlist and wait till the prices reduces .
